Should You Buy Or Rent A Carpet Shampooer? Here’s The Answer.

Carpet experts know that to keep your carpet looking new and to remove worn in traffic stains, you need to use a carpet shampooer at least once a year. If you have pets, small children, or allergies then you might want to consider shampooing your carpet each quarter year. If you will only shampoo your carpet once year, then ask your friends and family if they have one to lend you. If you don’t know someone that owns one, then just go rent one from your local home improvement store like Lowe’s or The Home Depot. They usually cost about $15-$20 for the day and since you don’t have to find a place to store it or fix it if something breaks, it is well worth the one time annual cost. If you plan to shampoo your carpet more than about three to four times a year, then purchasing your own shampooer might be worth considering. They are really pretty cheap today and will make a nice addition to your floor cleaning supplies.

When selecting a carpet shampooer, there are a few things you should consider. The most important factor when comparing the different shampooers is the size of the water tank. In my opinion, bigger is better. The less time you have to re-fill the tank the easier it. Much of the time spent shampooing your carpet will be spent at the kitchen sink filling up the tank. Don’t worry, they will never be too large for even a frail person to carry, so get the one with the largest tank. The next think to consider is whether the shampooer has rotating brushes or fixed brushes. Rotating brushes will do a much better job of deep cleaning, but can wear out the carpet faster. The fixed brushes do not clean as deeply, but would be a better choice if you plan to wash your carpet often. Lastly, some manufacturers will provide attachments which will enhance its functionality. These attachments allow you to shampoo carpeted stairs, and upholstery and can be a valuable bonus.

So how does the carpet shampooer work? It’s quite simple, actually. You first combine carpet cleaning solution with fresh water into the holding tank and then attach it to the holding tank mount of the shampooer. When you turn the machine on the carpet cleaning solution will start to be massaged into the carpet. A vacuum pump will suck the water from the carpet and deposit it into a dirty water holding tank also attached to the shampooer, removing the soil. Your carpet will be damp and will take approximately one hour to dry, but once it’s dry your carpet will look brand new. If you are considering purchasing a carpet shampooer, go for the brand name manufacturer of these cleaning supplies such as Hoover or Bissel. They will sell replacement parts and offer customer service if needed.
