Method’s Lil’ Bowl Blu Toilet Bowl Cleaner – The Natural Way to Clean Your Toilets

Method Lil’ Bowl Blu toilet bowl cleaner is one of the more interesting products I have recently reviewed. This cleaning supplies product uses non-toxic, naturally derived, biodegradable ingredients. Get this, it uses lactic acid? You know, the same acid that is in your stomach which is used to digest the food you eat. Evidently this same acid can be used to deep clean your toilet, removing the ring around the rim, decalcify, and deodorize – naturally. Wow!!
To use it, you just twist the cap on the container, squirt Lil’ Bowl Blu under the rim and around the toilet bowl, then you wait approximately 10 minutes, then scrub the toilet with a toilet bowl brush, and flush. That’s it your done. Most other toilet bowl cleaners use phosphoric acid and/or sulfuric acid. Phosphoric acid will break down into phosphates in water and those phosphates contribute to algae growth, which results in depleted oxygen levels in our ponds, streams, and rivers. Sulfuric acid is the same stuff used in batteries, and we all know how harmful that can be to the environment. You don’t have to worry any of that with this toilet bowl cleaner. The source of the lactic acid is from natural sources of starch like corn, potatoes, and sugar.
Some of the reviews I have read claim that this product does not perform as well as the other less natural products. It does not appear as strong, which makes sense to me. Lactic acid is not near as acidic as phosphoric and sulfuric acid. Others claim that the design of the bottle makes it difficult to squirt an even stream of cleaner under the rim because it allows air to rush in. They also don’t like that you have to touch the nozzle to close the container, and who wants to touch the part that has just been in the toilet? Others complain that this product is hard to find and not regularly sold in retail stores.
People who liked this house cleaning supplies product seemed to love the eucalyptus smell and also the guilt free feeling knowing that they didn’t hurt the environment. I imagine that if you bought this product you can expect to use more effort to clean your toilets, especially if they have not been cleaned recently and you have crusted on rings and deep stains. But I think that if you clean your toilet regularly, than the additional effort might not be much at all. This coupled with the warm and fuzzy feeling from using a safe product it might be more than worth it.
