Floor Polishers, What The Average Joe Need To Know.
Categorized: Floor Cleaning Supplies | No comments
It is well known in the floor polisher community that all floors will lose their shine after a few months. If you are constantly reminded of this fact by the poor condition of your floors every day when you get home from work, it might be time to consider hiring a professional floor polishing service to come put that brand new looking shine or your floors, or if you’re the do-it-yourself type, maybe a floor polisher is the perfect next addition to your floor cleaning supplies. There are obvious benefits with both choices, but this post will not attempt to compare and contrast the two, rather, it is intended to help those who want o purchase a floor polisher understand their options so they can make a more practical choice.
The most important consideration when choosing the right floor polisher is answering this question. How much of a surface (sq ft or sq m) you will need to polish? Rules of thumb: to keep your floors with average foot traffic looking new, they should be polished at least four times a year. If you have less than 1000 sq ft of surface you need to polish, then you can get by with a built for the home version floor polisher. You can get these for less than $300; they are relatively cheap because there is a great deal of competition between manufacturers. If you have multiple types of surfaces, like marble floors, tile floors, hard wood floors, concrete floors, or laminate floors then you should buy a multi-purpose floor polishing machine. You will not need to purchase a concrete floor polisher, and a hard wood floor polisher, and a concrete floor polisher, just make sure to get the multipurpose type.
How do they work? They generally work by rotating a disc that has a pad in contact with the surface. An often time there is a cleaning solution your spray or mop onto the surface, then go over it with a bristled pad that quickly clean the surface of mud, paint, oils, dirt and whatever else has gotten into the pores of the floor surface. Then you will mop up the floor. Once that is done, you spray a wax polish onto the floor, change out the pad to a polishing pad and polish the floor. It really quite simple and once you do it the first time, you will agree it’s pretty easy. Every surface requires a different type of pad and depending on the amount of shine you want, the pads have a range. They range from lamb’s wool for zero scour high luster shines, to diamond grained for smoothing rough concrete. Your local home improvement store will have a wide range of pads as well as a range of floor buffers. I suggest visiting your home improvement store to get an idea to what is out there on the market and then come home and see if you can get a better deal from an online distributor.
