Windex Glass Cleaner – Not Just Your Grandmother’s Glass Cleaner Anymore
Categorized: Window Cleaning Supplies | No comments
Windex glass cleaner was invented in 1933 and has been trusted for generations to provide users with its famous streak-free shine. The key ingredient in this window cleaning supplies product is Ammonia-D which they claim is what allows the cleaner to work on dirt before you wipe. Windex has recently jump onto the “go green” bandwagon and now make this product better for the environment by reducing the VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) by 83%. They claim that this is equivalent to eliminating the VOC’s from around 383,000 mid-sized cars. They also have made their bottles recyclable and are made of 50% post consumer content. That all is good to know I am glad to hear they are doing it.
For a little history of Windex glass cleaner, when it was first invented it was 100% solvent, and quite flammable. So flammable in fact it, that it had to be sold in metal cans. Once modern surfactants were introduced in the late 1940’s, they reformulated the product and introduced to the public the now famous glass cleaner. Since SC Johnson acquired Windex in 1993 they have begun marketing different varieties of colors and fragrances such as spring bouquet, ocean mist, lavender, and tea tree, which have additives such as vinegar, lemon, lime, or orange juice. This product works on glass, sealed granite and other sealed stone countertops, UV-protected windows, mirrors, chrome bathroom fixtures, tile, plastic, vinyl, and aluminum or stainless steel appliances. They have also recently introduced new cleaning products to help you around the house or office, such as glass cleaning wipes, antibacterial multi-surface spray, an outdoor all-in-one glass cleaning tool, and an outdoor multi-surface cleaner spray that you can attach to your water hose.
The directions on how to use this product are simple. Rotate the nozzle to the “on” position, spray approximately one spray for each square foot of surface to be cleaned, wipe with a dry paper towel or lint free cloth. Some safety recommendations are to keep this product safely away from the reach of children or pets, do not use on wood or other varnished surfaces because it can strip the finish, and do not mix with other household chemicals.
Here is what people are saying about Windex glass cleaner. Some say that they have bought and used expensive stainless steel cleaners for their kitchen appliances and were disappointed because the expensive cleaners left streaks on the surfaces. They then remembered they had Windex and were amazed at how much better of a job it did, leaving no streaks and of course being much less expensive. Others use it on their automobile finishes shine up their cars before they go out on the town. I have never heard of anyone saying negative things about this product and have been a fan since I was a kid.
